Hello! I’m Lewis Townsend, Founder and Head Counsellor at Better U Therapy.
Better U Therapy was established to provide tailored and individual therapeutic support in a broadened capacity.
I am aware of life’s pressures and how consuming, distracting and counter-productive they can be. I also understand the impacts of experiencing unhelpful thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. Having experience with anxiety myself, I know all too well of how consuming this can be. In contrast, I also know how amazing and empowering it feels to take back control and manage unwarranted stress and anxiety.
My natural empathy and non-judgemental approach combined with professional therapeutic experience and individual journey of self-healing provides me with the knowledge, confidence, and tools to support in the path to become your better self. I deeply value the importance of building a relationship and trust while providing support free of judgement.
In terms of my experience and qualifications, I am a registered Counsellor with the Australian Counselling Association. I have spent much of my early career working in Education and Youth Justice supporting social, emotional and educational adolescence growth. Over time, my focus has shifted to professional development coaching, and stress management support for adults working in the Social Support sector. My passion and intrigue in recovery and healing following stress and the power of personal development led me to reengage with my studies in Counselling and Psychotherapy.
In terms of the type of support I provide, this is individualised based on your needs and desired approach. My preferred method of counselling is person-centred therapy; however, I also engage with acceptance and commitment therapy, solution-focused therapy, mindfulness-based therapy and positive psychology.
Developing present moment awareness, enhancing positive thought, accepting and controlling unwarranted thoughts, goal setting and reflecting on, and reconnecting with your core values are just some of the themes we might explore.
At Better U Therapy our aim is to provide support through online/tele-health sessions. This provides the benefit of being able to participate in the safety and comfort of your own environment.
